Major Financial Institutions Execute First Fully On-Chain US Treasury Trade

A consortium of leading banks and financial firms has successfully conducted the first real-time on-chain financing transaction for U.S. Treasuries using the Canton Network blockchain platform. Major participants included Bank of America, Citadel Securities, Societe Generale, DTCC, and Tradeweb.

The trade, executed outside normal market hours, demonstrates how blockchain technology can enable continuous access to liquidity and instant settlement for traditional financial assets.

The transaction utilized USDC stablecoin as the payment method while treating U.S. Treasury securities as digital collateral. This approach eliminates the time constraints and settlement delays inherent in conventional financial systems.

By completing the trade, the group proved the viability of 24/7 capital markets infrastructure. The Canton Network’s architecture enabled atomic settlement while maintaining confidentiality between counterparties.
